The Interview.

First Impressions Count.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

To maximise this opportunity, take a few deep breaths before you open the door. Make eye contact with everyone from the Receptionist to the CEO. Maintain an approachable smile and shake hands with a firm grip, neither too tight nor too loose.

The Interview Panel

The interviewer has chosen to meet you because they are genuinely interested in what you have to say. They are looking for reasons to hire you, so it’s crucial to utilise effective interview techniques.

Actively listen to their discussion, and match their tone, style, and body language with your own responses. Being well-prepared and showcasing your skills can significantly enhance your chances of success. Remember to highlight your strengths, stay confident, and demonstrate why you are the perfect fit for the role.

Question Time

Responding to interview questions is your chance to shine. Answer each question and elaborate for 3 – 4 minutes without going off on a tangent.

Draw on the STAR technique to respond to behavioural questions. It’s a failsafe way to prove how talented and competent you are. S-situation T-task A-action R-result.

Search Google to find many helpful resources on the STAR technique. If you need to hear the question again, simply ask. The interviewer will not mind at all.

At the end of the interview, it is your turn to ask questions. Ask genuine questions that will educate you about the role. Think back to the questions that arose in your earlier preparation. Additionally, enquire about the company culture, team dynamics, and future growth opportunities to show your keen interest and engagement.

Close The Interview

Leave the interview with the same positive attitude you had when you arrived. Shake hands and thank the panel for their time. Follow up with a thank-you email and reiterate your enthusiasm for the role and express gratitude for the opportunity. Then, all that remains is to patiently await the panel's final decision.

Remember, staying professional and courteous throughout the entire process can leave a lasting impression.
